In December 2014, Michael and Denise wanted to start a “Pendant Project” for charity and began brainstorming ideas on how they could make it all happen. Denise’s first thought was to support women in treatment as she is an 18-year-survivor of cancer. She has walked the walk and knows first-hand how difficult the journey can be. A simple kindness can make all the difference on a “tough” day.
Denise’s story:
10 years ago, I walked into the Glass Source Studio and I knew I had found the perfect venue to release my creativity. Michael Skrtic, my mentor, and I forged a friendship immediately. Kindred souls have a way of finding each other. After 3 years of working on projects, I realized I had an opportunity to work in glass and support charity. I started my company, Miracles in Glass, and began donating a portion of my profit to local charities. With Michael’s training, I have learned many techniques in glass fusing to create fun, colorful jewelry.
Partners with the American Cancer Society:
Look Good Feel Better program is provided at multiple hospitals throughout the state of Connecticut. The program is dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of people undergoing treatment for cancer. “Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. But it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence.” We felt this was the perfect starting point for the “Pendant Project”. We are supplying fused glass pendants to the American Cancer Society for their clients to be handed out during the “Look Good Feel Better” program.
How can you help?:
From the moment we began this venture, students and customers at the Glass Source Studio have offered to help us so we can continue to expand this program. We have an exclusive line jewelry for sale here at the Glass Source Studio in Shelton, CT. The profit from these sales will be used to continue creating unique and colorful jewelry for the “Pendant Project”. The Glass Source Studio will be forming classes so you can make your own pendants and a portion of the class fee will go directly to this program. If you would like to support this program to help cover costs of materials needed, please contact the studio via email or call us at 203-924-4368. Please stop in and say hello, we would love to meet you!
Warmest regards,
Denise Lucarelli & Michael A. Skrtic
